Nine BNP activists get 3yrs jail in subversion case in 2013

A Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court on Tuesday convicted and sentenced nine leaders and activist of BNP, including Juba Dal organising secretary Ishaq Sarkar and his elder brother Yakub Sarkar, to three-year jail in a case lodged for carrying out subversive activities in 2013.

Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Asheq Imam pronounced the judgment in the case filed under speedy trial act. The court also fined them Tk 5,000.

 

The other convicts are Arman, Anwar Hossain Roki, Abdur Razzak Mintu, Rashed, Pervej, Sohel and Nader. Of the nine, Yakub Sarkar was in jail and produced before the court for the judgment.

The court also issued arrest warrant against the fugitive convicts.

Police filed the case in May, 2013, for carrying out subversive activities in Bongshal area in the capital.

Meanwhile, a separate court on Tuesday sent five BNP men including former Noakhali-4 lawmaker Md Shahjahan and Kushtia-2 lawmaker Mohammad Ahsan Habib Linkon to jail in another subversion case filed with the Bhatara police station.

The other three accused were Mohammad Belal Ahmed, Mohammad Shamimur Rahman Shamim and Monirul Haque.
